As I walked through the last day of autumn in Melbourne, I loved this Duchamp copy chained to the bike racks outside the National Gallery.

DESIGN :: Baccarat fused elegance, luxury and design at ‘HIGHLIGHTS’, a standout installation at Milan Design Week. Table top lamps byJaime Hayon and Eriko Horiki’s garden lights, were showcased alongside chandeliers by Arki Levy, Yann KeresaleMoatti & Riviere and Philippe Starck, and a simple yet exquisitely elegant collection by maestro Michele de Lucchi - each luminaire re-thinking the traditional notion of the crystal lighting, interpreted with LED technology.

Starckever quirky in the hero piece that was suspended from a C-stand and counter-balanced by a leather punching bag, the lamp topped by an Mary Poppins inspired umbrella - yours for around 120,000 Euro!

Yann Keresale   drew on her Japanese heritage by meticulously embedded paper with over-scale crystals, the result visually stunning, and stylistically remaining both classic and contemporary in one.  French architects Moatti & Riviere inserted a traditional crystal rosette into a sheet of carbon fibre, the linear volume hovering parallel with the ceiling.

The installation housed in a magnificent Palazzo in central Milan, each piece unified by a single red crystal embedded in each of the 30 or so LED luminaires -  the launch event was as chic as one would expect from the historical French crystal house.

DESIGN :: SEED by David Trubridge in Tortona at #Salone #Milan delivers an environmentally responsible solution where 40 boxes of flat-packed pendants now replace the single lighting box that was the former incarnation that was used to transport the product.  The foyer of the Tortona based installation presided over by the largest of the family, a beautiful illuminated sculpture. From David Trubridge.com on the collection :

‘Why fill a truck with one tree, when the cost to the Earth is reduced by boxing a packing boxes ins seed? You receive the seed of a light shade, & have fun & satisfaction making it grow yourself. Your tree fills the space, the patterns of its leaves calm  with their shade. It nourishes with its fruit, & keeps the balance of life.  The idea ripples out & spreads to the world, which becomes a brighter place.’ David Trubridge
